Discussing recourse and compensation for Marikana massacre victims’ families

The Bench Marks Foundation is putting more pressure on the platinum mining company Lonmin to compensate victims of the Marikana massacre. The Foundation is an independent organisation monitoring corporate performance in the field of corporate social responsibility. It has been engaging German chemicals company BASF, which is Lonmin’s largest customer to put pressure on the company to compensate the families of those hurt or killed in the 2012 Marikana massacre. The lobby group says there hasn’t been much progress to date. A few years ago Amnesty International released a report with a special focus on recommendations made by the Farlam Commission, and whether Lonmin had complied with those recommendations.
