AG slams minerals department for inadequate rehabilitation of SA’s abandoned mines

The Auditor-General of South Africa has released a report which slams the Department of Minerals and Energy for ineffective work on 6,100 derelict and abandoned mines in South Africa. The AG says government needs to speed up the rehabilitation of derelict mines as they pose an environmental and health risk to communities.
