Bench Marks Foundation - Home Page
Welcome to the "Bench Marks" web site...

The Bench Marks Foundation is an ecumenical agency of churches set up to serve churches and to monitor corporate conduct. Archbishop Desmond Tutu launched the Foundation in 2001 and we established an office in 2003 that became operationally functional in 2004

The Bench Marks Foundation is part of an international faith-based coalition that also has partners in Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, the USA, Colombia and the United Kingdom. Our partners in South Africa are the South African Council of Churches (SACC), the Ecumenical Service for Socio-Economic Transformation (ESSET), Industrial Mission of South Africa, and the Justice and Peace Department of the South African Catholic Bishops Conference.

The Bench Marks Foundation has three programmatic focus areas...
  • To promote a culture of ethical investments in the churches and faith communities.

  • To monitor multinational corporations operating in Southern Africa and the rest of the African continent to ensure that they meet minimum social, environmental and economic standards.

  • To promote an ethical and critical voice on what constitutes corporate social responsibility.
Our Mission

The Bench Marks Foundation is committed to providing leadership and advocacy on issues regarding benchmarking of good corporate governance, ethical and socially responsible investment as well as linking people and institutions committed to these ideals.
