| The SADC Mining Research and Advocacy Programme |
| The Bench Marks Foundation has a broad focus on mining in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries. This focus aims to develop a better understanding of codes and legislation governing mining across SADC countries and to build a regional network of concerned civil society organisations to influence polices and practices of mines in the Southern African region.
In 2007 the Bench Marks Foundation published a major research report on platinum mining in Rustenburg called the "Policy Gap - A review of the corporate social responsibility programmes of the platinum industry in the North West province".
This research is now being replicated in a further study on other mining sectors in South Africa (coal, uranium and gold), Malawi (uranium) and Zambia (copper).
The current research forms part of a broader research and advocacy programme
on the extractive industries in the SADC region that will cover Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Mozambique, and we hope to extend this to other regions in the future.

| The Africa Roundtable on Investment |
The Africa Roundtable on Investment is a network of social change organisations in Africa committed to influencing investment policies and development trajectories on the continent.
There are over 25 organisations from across ten SADC countries involved in the Africa Roundtable. Research studies being conducted include investigating the operations of Shoprite Checkers in Malawi, Zambia and Swaziland and the operations of Woolworths in Botswana.
The aims of the Africa Roundtable are to:
- Gather information and raise awareness of the conduct of South African and other multinational corporations on the continent.
- Gather like-minded organisations prepared to monitor and campaign on corporations' social responsibility obligations.
- Work towards a common vision and programme that deals with Africa's developmental needs, including a strong local economic development component.
- oDevelop a code of conduct for multinational corporations to be adopted in Africa and at the level of SADC and the African Union AU.
